Our Services

One of the hardest questions any professional has had to answer is “what do you do?”. We have bravely attempted to answer this question here…

We are a firm of management consultants with a strong risk background.

Our scope of expertise is broad. This can range from strategic insights to practical operational services.

Our goal is to protect your bottom line by pro-actively identifying and mitigating threats to it. By doing this we help you ensure the sustainability of your entire business operation.

Although historically positioned as separate functions, there is a growing acceptance that Risk, Compliance and Governance functions are connected.

A segregated approach often leads to operational silos that negatively affect business operational efficiency, and increase enterprise risk.

ARC Solutions specialises in the unification of Governance, Risk and Compliance allowing us to provide holistic solutions for your business. We understand that a single change in one area can create a ripple effect through the other two, and the necessary preparations must be made to prevent the ripple from becoming a wave that cannot be contained.

Conversely, the convergence of the fields creates gaps in knowledge, whereby a Risk Manager with a financial background may be unable to adequately assess and address the risks that arise in the IT space – and vice versa.

Governance

It is the system of processes, practices and carefully defined rules to direct and control a company. The ultimate goal is to balance the interests of the company’s stakeholders. Accountability, transparency, fairness, independence and responsibility make up the basic principles of Corporate Governance. These principles properly maintained allow for honest, accurate and reliable Risk and Compliance functions.

Risk

The goal of Risk Management is to control possible future outcomes by being proactive rather than reactive. An effective risk management system relies heavily on assessing, advising, and acting. Failure to account for regulatory risks may lead to punitive action taken by regulatory bodies..

Compliance

Compliance means to abide by or conform to one or multiple sets of rules. These rules are defined by the company’s internal policies or, in the case of regulatory compliance, the rules designated by legislation. With the constant increases in regulatory requirements, a business needs to adapt and maintain best practices in compliance controls. Failure to maintain regulatory compliance presents regulatory Risk. Failure to comply with the company’s internal rules and policies demonstrates ineffective Governance Structures and exposure to operational, legal, financial, and investment risks.

HOW WE HAVE HELPED OUR CLIENTS:

icon

Case #1

A client approached us for a regulatory licence that required a financial risk model. Our compliance team completed their licence, whilst our risk experts engaged with our client to build a customised financial risk model. The model was instrumental in optimising their profitability, whilst providing as much protection against their downside as reasonably possible. This was achieved using bespoke quantitative modelling, together with cutting edge qualitative elements, taking a variety of factors into account including target client base sophistication and behavioural aspect modelling.

Case #2

A client engaged with a broker in a series of complex transactions which were not well documented – they were a combination of legal documentation, emails and verbal communication. The client wished to litigate. We assisted in unpacking the individual instruments utilised and advised on the regulatory recourse that the client had.

Case #3

We ran an audit on an existing client’s compliance framework and picked up gaps that we were able to address prior to any business or regulatory issues arising.

Case #4

A client required a QI licence from the IRS (US). We tried to source a local provider, and, being unable to do so – embarked on the process of successfully obtaining this licence for our client ourselves. They were, at the time, one of only two South African entities to hold this status.

Case #5

A client was threatened with litigation by a firm, based on alleged contravention of a contract, as well as breach of regulation. We assisted by critically reviewing the contract, and refining the business model in a manner that ensured no regulatory contravention.
